Collapse of a Molecular Cloud Core to Stellar Densities: The First Three-Dimensional Calculations
نویسنده
چکیده
We present results from the first three-dimensional calculations ever to follow the collapse of a molecular cloud core (∼ 10 g cm) to stellar densities (> 0.01 g cm). The calculations resolve structures over 7 orders of magnitude in spatial extent (∼ 5000 AU − 0.1 R⊙), and over 17 orders of magnitude in density contrast. With these calculations, we consider whether fragmentation to form a close binary stellar system can occur during the second collapse phase. We find that, if the quasistatic core that forms before the second collapse phase is dynamically unstable to the growth of nonaxisymmetric perturbations, the angular momentum extracted from the central regions of the core, via gravitational torques, is sufficient to prevent fragmentation and the formation of a close binary during the subsequent second collapse. Collapse of a molecular cloud core to stellar densities: stellar core and outflow formation in radiation magnetohydrodynamics simulations
We have performed smoothed particle radiation magnetohydrodynamics (SPRMHD) simulations of the collapse of rotating, magnetised molecular cloud cores to form protostars. The calculations follow the formation and evolution of the first hydrostatic core, the collapse to form a stellar core, the launching of outflows from both the first hydrostatic core and stellar cores, and the breakout of the s...
متن کاملFormation of Primordial Protostars
The evolution of collapsing metal free protostellar clouds is investigated for various masses and initial conditions. We perform hydrodynamical calculations for spherically symmetric clouds taking account of radiative transfer of the molecular hydrogen lines and the continuum, as well as of chemistry of the molecular hydrogen. The collapse is found to proceed almost self-similarly like Larson-P...
متن کاملFormation of Primordial Stars in a Λcdm Universe
Primordial stars are formed from a chemically pristine gas consisting of hydrogen and helium. They are believed to have been born at some early epoch in the history of the Universe and to have enriched the interstellar medium with synthesized heavy elements before the emergence of ordinary stellar populations. We study the formation of the first generation of stars in the standard cold dark mat...
متن کاملFormation of Massive Primordial Stars in a Reionized Gas
We use cosmological hydrodynamic simulations with unprecedented resolution to study the formation of primordial stars in an ionized gas at high redshifts. Our approach includes all the relevant atomic and molecular physics to follow the thermal evolution of a prestellar gas cloud to very high densities of ∼ 10cm. We locate a star-forming gas cloud within a reionized region in our cosmological s...
متن کاملThe Evolution of the First Core in Rotating Molecular Core
The standard star formation scenario is based on spherically symmetric radiative hydrodynamics calculations. In this paper, we focus on the evolution of the rotating non-spherical cloud through the first core and second collapse phases 10 < ρ < 10 3 g cm using axisymmetric numerical calculations. The rotating first core evolves under the influence of mass and angular momentum accretion from the...
